BUCYRUS—Due to a donation by the Bucyrus Kiwanis Club, local youngsters will be rewarded for making positive choices with very cool rewards.

According to Captain Tom Walker of the Bucyrus Police Department, on Thursday afternoon the police department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office were presented with a total of 1,000 (500 for each department) of ice cream vouchers.

Walker said the Bucyrus Kiwanis Club was able to do this in cooperation with Dairy Crest, located at 1100 E. Mansfield St., and Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream at 201 N. Sandusky Ave.

He said that police officers and Sheriff’s deputies in the field will be provided the vouchers to reward youngsters for doing the right thing, and making good choices.

“When a Bucyrus officer or deputy encounters a child that has displayed respect for others, obeyed traffic laws on their bikes, or went out of their way to do something nice for someone, the officer can now reward that child with a free ice cream treat,” said Walker.

The vouchers will be distributed to officers before this weekend, and they will actively start rewarding young people for making good choices.

“Bucyrus Police Department is whole-heartedly committed to community partnerships, and honored to team up with both the Kiwanis and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to reach our young people,” said Bucyrus Police Chief Neil Assenheimer. “We’re looking forward to rewarding kids for doing the right thing.”
