The skies opened up overnight after the Crawford County Commissioners met about the courthouse roof Tuesday and the thunder almost seemed like a taunt. That meeting the commissioners held included architect Bruce Heinlen and Facilities Manager Dave Weir.

“We’re down to the point of just setting some dates,” Heinlen said, noting he was meeting with a contractor this week to discuss details of what will be required of the contractor who is awarded the job.

Opting for a temporary solution to the leaky roof until funding is secured for a more permanent overhaul, Heinlen presented the commissioners and Weir with a detailed overview and timeline for getting the work done. The estimated cost of the repairs is between $25,000 and $50,000.

Heinlen said he hoped to advertise for bids on Aug. 26 and Sept. 2. There will be a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Sept. 4 and bids will be opened Sept. 18.

Heinlen said the job should take about two weeks but allowed a 30-day window from Sept. 29 to Oct. 29 for the contractor with the winning bid to get the work done.
