Two current Bucyrus City School students, along with two alumnae, performed with the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir during the 2014 Ohio State Fair. Mary Hart and Baylee Wilson, eleventh and tenth grade students respectively, along with Rose Buckelew and Jenna Sabo, both recent graduates with the Class of 2014, were accepted into the program through a rigorous and competitive application process.

Along with completing an application, each student was required to acquire a recommendation from Bucyrus Director of Choirs, Mrs. Nickie French. French was asked to rate each applicant based on musical skills, professionalism, maturity, the ability to accept constructive criticism and other personality traits.

“I am so proud of these four young ladies,” French said. “They are some of the best choir students I have taught, and they represented themselves, their families and the Bucyrus City Schools extremely well.”

The choir performed throughout the 2014 Ohio State Fair in many different venues and arenas. Last year, Rose Buckelew was the only student to represent Bucyrus in the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir.

Additionally, Baylee Wilson was chosen to perform with the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir Drum Corps. This group plays as choir members enter and exit the performance spaces, and Wilson was required to go through an audition process for the opportunity to perform with this group.

“I want to congratulate and commend these young ladies for taking the initiative to apply and participate in this amazing opportunity,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “Mrs. French does a tremendous job with our vocal music department at the Secondary School, and four participants in the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir is a testament to her dedication to her students and her passion for vocal music.”
