CRESTLINE—The village of Crestline is in the hiring process for several positions.
Mayor Linda Horning Pitt said two candidates will be interviewed this week for the position of village administrator after the position was left vacant about two months ago when John Rostash resigned.
“We have scheduled in-person visits with the final two candidates for the Village Administrator position to take place January 5 and 6. They will meet with employees and businesses along with any council member or citizen who would like to meet with them,” said Horning Pitt during the regular village council meeting on Monday evening.
She said the final decision will be made by Jan. 8.
Horning Pitt also said that an interview had been conducted recently with Linda Marsano for the Clerk of Courts position to replace Amanda Fruth who will be leaving at the end of January.
“Magistrate Tim Roston, Village Solicitor Rob Ratliff and I interviewed Linda Marsano for the Clerk of Courts position as Amanda Furth has given notice. Magistrate Roston recommended we hire Linda Marsano immediately so that she can begin training with Amanda and experience at least two Court sessions before Amanda leaves at the end of January,” said Horning Pitt.
Council member Gene Toy requested the council, along with the mayor, hold an executive session to discuss the issue. The council was adjourned into the session which lasted approximately 20 minutes.
Council approved the mayor’s appointment of Marsano to the position unanimously as an emergency.
Council also approved resolutions to authorize the mayor to transfer all title paperwork for the Village of Crestline Ambulance and to become an additional signatory for purposes of applying for funding and disbursements on behalf of the Village of Crestline for the WWTP and OWDA.
Council member Allen Laferty made a motion for the council to vote to override the mayor’s proclamation issued on Dec. 23 to postpone shut-offs for water service for three weeks due to village hall being closed to the public because of rising COVID-19 cases in the county.
Laferty said the mayor did not have the authority to extend the shut-offs for Crestline residents. The council approved to override the proclamation but did not explain what it means for residents who may have a shut-off notice.
During her report, Horning Pitt said she attended the Christmas Star event after the last Council meeting at the Gazebo.
“There was a great turnout for the event. The music was beautiful and the live manger scene touched many,” said Horning Pitt.
She also congratulated the newest Crawford County Commissioner, Larry Schmidt, who took office on Monday after being elected to the position in November’s general election.
The next council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 18.
