BUCYRUS—Santa Claus is coming to town!

Members of the Rotary Club of Bucyrus and the Bucyrus Kiwanis Club have teamed up to provide an opportunity for children to see Santa this year. While Santa’s house remains closed to protect him and Mrs. Claus, the groups hope this chance to see and wave at Santa warms the hearts of children who otherwise can’t understand the limitations that Covid-19 has placed on events such as Santa’s arrival.

The parade will kick off from Bucyrus High School at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, and end at approximately 10:45 a.m. at Family Farm & Home. The Santa parade will start at Bucyrus High School and weave through town, eventually ending at Family Farm & Home. This will be a very simple parade that consists of Santa on a Fire Truck, escorted by the police department.

Bucyrus Rotary Club President-Elect Kevin Myers said that the groups are asking that those watching the parade park in a designated parking space on city streets, or in one of the parking lots that the groups have secured for use. Members of both clubs will be on hand at the designated parking lots to help cars park in a manner that they can have the best view.

Those designated parking lots include:

Bucyrus High School, Holy Trinity School (front and rear lots, Avita Bucyrus (between Holy Trinity and Dr. Johnson’s office), Bucyrus Elementary School, KB Machine (the former Wire Assembly building) and Family Farm and Home.

Myers said that those watching the parade are asked to remain in their vehicles. For those that cannot stay in their vehicles, the organizers of the parade are asking that everyone follow social distancing and mask-wearing protocols.

“This concept came about as a discussion after we saw Crestline had scheduled a similar event. Our hearts break for the kids, who simply don’t understand why some things are the way they are these days,” said Myers. “We really just wanted to give them a moment of magic this Christmas season.”

Santa will be happy to wave to everyone he sees, but the groups ask that people refrain from approaching him this year.

Merry Christmas everyone!
