CRESTLINE—The Crestline Exempted Village School District’s athletic complex currently bears the name of long-time football coach Jerry Harbaugh but one local resident would like to see it changed.

Denny Mayer came to the district’s board meeting on Monday evening to detail his proposal for the name change of the complex.

“When you name a complex, that carries with it a great deal of responsibility. You should be ensuring that qualified candidates are considered,” said Mayer.

He said the person be that is most deserving is Jim Glauer.

Glauer was the athletic director at Crestline for 24 years, along with working as a teacher and coach. Mayer said Glauer is more deserving of the honor than others.

Crestline resident Clayton Herold proposed a name be given to the walkway to the new stadium at the school and the board gave their approval for the name of DiPietro-Runyon Way but did not address Mayer’s issue with the athletic complex name.

Superintendent Matt Henderson honored the district’s three principals in honor of National Principal’s month, including Kevin Fourman, Gregory Travis and Kristy Grimwood.

“2020 has given us unique challenges and all of our principals have risen to meet those challenges,” said Henderson. “Thank you for all you do for our district.”

The students of the month for each elementary grade were also acknowledged during the meeting and include preschooler Addie Looney, kindergartener Haven Clum, first-grader Sayler Burchfield, second-grader Catherine Parmer, third-grader Emilee Eberhardt, fourth-grader Elizabeth Storms and fifth-grader Xeighdyn Guerra.

The board approved the upcoming retirement of long-time science teacher Janis Dameron who will retire in July of 2021.

“I love this place,” said Dameron.

She said that she will miss teaching but after 33 years, it is time to retire and do some traveling.

The board also approved the resignation of custodian Ollie Bailey and the hiring of Autumn McGarvey as a home instruction tutor for this school year.

The current treasurer’s report, along with several regular agenda items, were also approved by the board before going into executive session to discuss pending or imminent court action with the district’s legal counsel.
