A few minutes was all it took for Brittany Johnson to decide to head to prison rather than trial.
Just a few days shy of her 23rd birthday, the Galion woman was scheduled to go to trial for a felony two robbery case Tuesday morning in Crawford County Common Pleas Court. With the jury waiting to be sworn in in a back room, Johnson instead chose to plead guilty after a motion to suppress evidence in her case was denied.
Johnson pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony robbery and fifth-degree felony drug possession charges. She attempted to inflict physical harm on another person while committing a theft offense. Johnson admitted to painting a plastic gun to look real and demanded the victim hand over her purse on Dec. 19, 2013. She also admitted to possessing Percocet on April 1.
Johnson, who is eight months pregnant, was sentenced to four years in prison on the robbery charge and 11 months in prison for the drug possession charge. The sentences will be served consecutively for a total of four years and 11 months, though she will receive credit for time served since the date of her arrest.
Johnson could receive judicial release after 24 months served. She was ordered to pay a $1,250 mandatory drug fine and $500 in restitution to the victim.
Johnson had been arrested along with four other people in a drug bust in Galion on Jan. 24.
