BUCYRUS — A Bucyrus City Council member is ending her term early due to several reasons.
In a letter to council, Candy Yocum announced her resignation Thursday morning. It was her first term as a council member, representing ward two in Bucyrus.
According to the Crawford County Board of Elections, the Democratic Central Committee is charged with appointing Yocum’s replacement.
Wanda Sharrock, chair of the Democratic Central Committee, said any Democrat in ward two may contact her immediately to apply for the position by calling her at 419-689-3302.
Yocum cited an unsafe environment for council members as well as the public as the main reason she felt her resignation is necessary during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Bucyrus City Council President Kurt Fankhauser said in an email to the media Thursday that council is sad to see Yocum resign and wished her the best.
“Although she was with us for only a short time, she did bring good ideas to Bucyrus City Council. Ms. Yocum was the only council person that expressed any hesitation to resume meeting normally over Covid concerns,” said Fankhauser.
He said accommodations were made for her to sit at a separate table away from the other council members.
“As far as I knew, she was fine with that arrangement as she had not made any other mention to me of any continued concerns,” said Fankhauser. “I wish Ms. Yocum good luck with any of her future endeavors she chooses to pursue in life.”
