BUCYRUS — Bucyrus attorney Patrick Murphy was sworn in by Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold to fulfill the term of the late Judge Steven Eckstein as probate/juvenile court judge.

Murphy, the Republican nominee for the bench, was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine. In November, Murphy will seek re-election. He will preside over cases in both Probate and Juvenile Court.

Murphy brings over 40 years of courtroom experience in trying cases all over the state. Murphy estimates that he has litigated around 20,000 cases, many of which involved juvenile law, custody, child abuse/neglect and adoption. He has experience in probate matters as well.

Before swearing Murphy in as judge, Judge Leuthold said he couldn’t be happier for Murphy.

“We have butted heads over the years as lawyers practicing at the same time,” Leuthold said. “He’s a good friend. It might sound a little corny but I’m proud of Pat.”

Flanked by his family and grandchildren, Murphy reiterated his desire to give back.

“My field of focus will be this community,” Murphy said. “I want to help the kids, do noble work for the county and simply give back.”
