There were plenty of smiles on the steps of City Hall Friday morning in spite of the gray clouds overhead. Mayor Sis Love read an official document to members of Together We Hurt Together We Heal and the Marion-Crawford Teen Institute declaring June 14 to 21 as Drug Awareness Week in Bucyrus.

The partnership between the two groups was coordinated by the Bucyrus Area YMCA.

“The YMCA called us and asked us to join them (Teen Institute),” said Mary Jo Carle of Together We Hurt Together We Heal.

They will be handing out pink ribbons beginning today (Saturday) in return for a donation to support both groups efforts to promote drug awareness and addiction treatment. In addition pink ribbons will be placed up and down Sandusky Avenue on the street lights.

“Our Teen Institute program is a year-round program,” said Cindy Clouner of The Marion-Crawford teen Institute. She noted it was very active in various schools in both counties.

The groups will have a presence at today’s Graffiti Cruise-In as well as Wal-Mart, True Value and the YMCA all week long.
