BUCYRUS — Brittany Haga of Galion pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her community control in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday.

In August, Haga was placed on five years of probation after she pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

Haga, 24, admitted to violating the terms and conditions of her community control when she conceded that she used alcohol on September 3. On September 11, following a routine drug screen, Haga tested positive for amphetamines, benzodiazepines, meth and marijuana.

Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold honored a plea between the state and the defense and ordered Haga to spend seven months in prison. Leuthold said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.

In other court news, Robert Pinyerd, 38, of Crestline appeared to answer allegations that he violated the terms and conditions of his community control. Pinyerd was placed on probation in December for one count of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

Probation Officer Chris Heydinger told the court that Pinyerd lost his job in June and failed to report it to the probation office and has failed to report for office visits since June 9. Heydinger testified that Pinyerd failed a urine drug test on September 24 and tested positive for drugs including fentanyl and morphine.

Leuthold ruled the matter be set for a full hearing and appointed an attorney, Tom Nicholson, to represent Pinyerd. Bond was set at $100,000.

Ezra Benedict, 27, of Galion was sentenced to one year of community control after he pleaded guilty to domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony punishable with up to 18 months in prison.

“I’m going to be honest with you, one guy throwing one guy one punch over a girl is not the kind of thing that keeps me awake at night,” Leuthold told Benedict before sentencing. “That’s why you’re getting one year of community control. But mind you, if you don’t complete community control, I can send you to prison for 18 months.”

Benedict and his roommate (who had previously dated his girlfriend) exchanged disparaging remarks about the girl. The roommate told the girl what Benedict had said and an angry Benedict punched the roommate one time.

Leuthold did not place any special conditions on the community control, but he warned Benedict.

“I’m cutting you some slack. Stay the hell out of bars and stop drinking,” Leuthold said.

Samantha Dyer, 32, of Bucyrus admitted to violating the terms and conditions of her community control after she tested positive for meth in a drug test on September 16. Dyer was placed on probation earlier in September after she pleaded guilty to three counts of felony child non-support, each a fifth-degree felony and each punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

Leuthold ordered Dyer to 11 months in prison on count one of the felonies. The other two felonies will be on stay until Dyer is released from prison. At that time, she will be placed on five years of community control with 24 months of prison time left to serve if she cannot complete community control.

Steven Beckman, 61, of Bucyrus made a general admission of guilt to violating the terms and conditions of his community control. Beckman was placed on probation in this month after he pleaded guilty to domestic violence, a third-degree felony punishable with up to 36 months in prison.

Beckman admitted to being convicted of disorderly conduct recently. Leuthold sentenced Beckman to 18 months in prison but said he would not oppose transitional control of the prison requested it.
