The Central Joint Ambulance District’s expansion into the northeastern sector of Crawford County took another step forward Monday evening when the New Washington Village Council passed a resolution approving its membership.

In a separate resolution, New Washington Police Chief Scott Robertson was named as the village’s appointed representative to the board.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, the New Washington Village Council elected to allow the proposed nuisance ordinance to remain tabled. This ordinance was tabled at the last meeting because not enough council members were present at the last meeting to hold a vote. Following some public input from those who have lodged dissatisfaction with the tropical bird situation in town, the ordinance will remain tabled until further notice.

Roger Throckmorton and Suzanne Wuthrich gave an update on the current situation with the birds. They expressed that the noise levels have been down considerably and there have been several warm days. They sympathized with some of the difficulties that this ordinance would present to the village, and agreed that as long as the noise level remained at its current tolerable state, they would be satisfied with the ordinance remaining tabled. Council complied, and should the situation change, they have the option of resurrecting the ordinance.

The Jeffrey Drive project will be the first paving action of the upcoming season. Brian Agin reported that this job is the first overall job on the list when Bucyrus Road Materials resumes work for 2014. Following on some discussion at the last council meeting, it was decided to widen the cul-de-sac to allow for easier snow plowing in the winter. This would mean shrinking the green space at the center of the cul-de-sac. How much wider the roadway will be will be determined when after consultation with Bucyrus Road Materials.

The street department assisted at the pool house project by doing the trenching for the new underground electrical lines. Mayor Ben Lash expressed his appreciation for the team work shown by different departments.

Also in street department news, Julie Cronau said that she had a received a bid from CoSam for the south portion of the street department roof. This portion of the roof is in bad shape and needs redone, but Cronau is expecting a bid from a competing company for this work and has not received it yet.

Council accepted a bid of $300 for the old street department tractor. It received that bid and a bid of $155. No bids were received for the old Christmas decorations. Council is considering setting them out for sale at the upcoming garage sale. The new Christmas decorations have been received.
