BUCYRUS―At least one person was arrested after law enforcement searched an East Oakwood Avenue residence at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

The Crawford County Special Response Team, consisting of the Bucyrus, Galion and Crestline Police Departments, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Bucyrus and Galion Fire Departments, converged on the former Harter’s Gift Shoppe in the 200 block of East Oakwood Avenue to serve a warrant as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

All Crawford County law enforcement agencies are members of The METRICH Enforcement Unit and Bucyrus Police detectives investigated drug and weapon activity at the location. The search team searched one of three apartments in the converted store and residential building, seizing two firearms, suspected methamphetamine, ammunition, a machete and drug paraphernalia.

James Williams will be charged with having weapons under disability and according to Bucyrus Police Chief Dave Koepke, other people may be interested as part of the investigation.

Koepke said he was stationed at Maplecrest, a nursing home facility for the elderly during the raid.

“Since Maplecrest is next door to the location, we felt it would be safer for the residents to congregate in the dining room area of the facility while officers conducted the search of the residence,” said Koepke. “We appreciate the cooperation of the Maplecrest residents who went to a safe location for a brief meeting as the officers arrived next door.”

No injuries were reported in the incident and Koepke thanks the many area residents participating in the Neighborhood Watch Program and the upcoming 2019 National Night Out gatherings.

“Thank you to the great work and cooperation by all of our Crawford County public safety forces,” said Koepke.

Koepke reminds area residents to please use the tip line at 419-834-2023 or submit a tip to METRICH online.
