COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced divisional assignments recently for boys’ and girls’ basketball for the winter sports season.
As was the case in football, Crawford County and Northern 10 Athletic Conference schools were mostly unaffected by the realignments.
The OHSAA uses a combination of base enrollment numbers (EMIS) and open enrollment or competitive balance (CB) numbers.
In boys’ basketball, Bucyrus, Wynford, Colonel Crawford, Seneca East, and Northmor remain in Division III. All four would be DIII even without their respective CB numbers.
Mohawk, Buckeye Central, Crestline and Ridgedale are in Division IV, as was the case in 2019-20. Galion and Upper Sandusky stay in Division II and both were not affected by their respective CB numbers.
Colonel Crawford has the largest CB number with 10, Bucyrus is nine, Galion is eight, Buckeye Central and Northmor are seven, Mohawk and Upper Sandusky are two and Wynford, Seneca East and Crestline are one.
On the girls’ side, Bucyrus, Wynford, Colonel Crawford and Upper Sandusky will be back in Division III. As with the boys, CB numbers did not affect divisional assignments.
Northmor, Seneca East, Buckeye Central, Mohawk, and Ridgedale stay in Division IV. Galion is the only Division II entrant in the area.
Colonel Crawford is again the CB leader with 16. Seneca East is 12, Ridgedale is 10, Galion is eight, Buckeye Central is seven, Bucyrus is five, Wynford and Mohawk are two, Upper Sandusky is one, while Crestline and Northmor are zero.
No teams moved divisions from a year ago and none are currently being affected by competitive balance.
