Continuing one of the oldest rivalries in Ohio high school sports, the Galion Tigers and the Bucyrus Redmen tipped off their basketball season against each other Friday night at Alex Kish Memorial Gymnasium in Bucyrus.
The Redmen jumped out to a 10-9 lead at the end of the first stanza. The Tigers came roaring back in the second quarter as they went into the half with an 11 point advantage, 26-15. Bucyrus clawed their way back into the game during the third quarter as they cut the deficit by six to 34-29. Galion pulled away in the fourth period on their way to a 47-38 victory.
Galion’s Isaiah Alsip led all scorers in the game with 21 points as his Tigers start the season off with a 1-0 record.
Bucyrus was led by Ryan Evans’ 9 points. Bucyrus drops to 0-1 to start out their season.

The Colonel Crawford Eagles and Mansfield Christian Flames battled down to the wire with the Eagles edging the Flames 49-46.
The Eagles went into the half with a four point advantage 20-16. Crawford improved upon their lead in the third as they took a 37-31 lead going into the final quarter.
During the fourth quarter the Flames got hot as they took over the lead with 2:30 to go in the game on a three pointer to go up 43-42. Crawford answered back with a three of their own to go up 45-43. The Flames would tie the game at 45 with 30 seconds to go in the game. Crawford answered back with a two pointer with 22 seconds to go to take a 47-46 point lead. A stolen inbounds pass by the Eagles’ Hayden Bute with eight seconds to go on the clock ended the Flames’ rally as Crawford extended the lead to 49-46 on two foul shots to close out scoring.
Colonel Crawford’s Brody Martin led all scorers in the game with 20 points, draining six three pointers.
Mansfield Christian was held to three members of the team scoring, each scoring in double digits. J.P. Trueblood led the Flames with 19 points, Kyle Kurtz score 17 and Jared McPeek contributed 10 points.
