BUCYRUS — Parents of student-athletes at Bucyrus High School received a letter from Superintendent Matt Crispin advising them that current athletic activities would be on hold for the next two weeks due to potential exposure to the coronavirus.
Crispin’s letter, issued over the weekend, is contained herein:
“Friday, we received a report that a number of Bucyrus High School students were exposed to classmates who had contact with multiple individuals who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. These same students attended organized workouts and training sessions between July 6–11. Building administration worked with families, coaches, and advisors to determine the exposure included a significant number of student-athletes across a variety of sports.
“The families involved have been tested. Should there be a confirmed case, the Crawford County Health Department will notify those who have been in contact and provide guidance.
“In an effort to keep our students and coaches healthy and to mitigate the potential spread of the virus, a 14-day quarantine will be in effect until the end of the day Friday, July 24 for the following programs: boys’ basketball, cheerleading, football, girls’ basketball, girls’ tennis, and volleyball. Should all tests comeback negative, we will reassess the deadline.
“During this time period, it is important to monitor your child’s health and keep him or her at home as much as possible.
“The quarantine is in accordance with guidelines recommended by the Crawford County Health Department.”
Crawford County Now will provide updates to the situation as they become available. According to current OHSAA schedules, practices for fall sports are scheduled to begin August 1.
