Week 4 of high school football action saw a few close games as well as a few that were not so close.

In WQEL’s game of the Week the Bucyrus Redmen made a late stand against the Mohawk Warriors denying Mohawk a two point conversion with 24 seconds left in the game to hold onto a 20-19 victory.

The game was tied at 13 with 2:59 left in the fourth quarter after Mohawk went on a 6-play 67-yard drive and a Conner Johnson score.

Bucyrus answered back quickly on a 53 yard pass from Cole Hollis to John Price that put the Redmen up 20-13.

Mohawk scored on a 15 yard pass from Juston Morton to Austin Shock with 24 seconds left to put the game within one point, but failed on a two point conversion for the win.

Bucyrus was led by Cole Murtiff through the air and on the ground in the game. Murtif completed 19 of 28 pass attempts for 189 yards and a touchdown through the air while grabbing 71 yards on 20 carries and a score on the ground.

Austin Williams led Redmen receivers with 102 yards on 7 receptions.

Gunnar Johnson led the Warriors on the ground amassing 276 yards on 35 attempts for 2 touchdowns. Johnson also led the Warriors through the air going 4 of 10 for 23 yards.

Austin Shock led Mohawk receiving with 3 catches for 27 yards and a score.

Bucyrus will next play Colonel Crawford.

The Wynford Royals handed Carey Blue Devils their first defeat of the season winning by a score of 14-13.

Carey jumped out to an early 7-0 lead; however Wynford answered back with a Keaton Teynor score with 2:33 left in the first to knot it up 7-7.

Finding themselves trailing Carey 13-7 in the second Wynford took the lead for good after Keaton Teynor connected on a pass to Koty Wilborn with 2:48 to go in the second to go up 14-13.

Wynford will next host Mohawk.

The Buckeye Central Bucks hosted the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers out of the Sandusky River League for their homecoming game Friday night.

BC homecoming 2014 After homecoming festivities which saw Cole Stacklin and Natalie Detinger as Homecoming King and Queen, the teams took the field.

Buckeye Central jumped out to an early 6-0 on a 41 yard pass from Grant Loy to Tyler Trapp with 9:49 seconds to go in the first; however the Blue Devils responded in kind after scoring on a 3 yard touchdown run to tie the game. With a P.A.T. St. Mary Central Catholic took a 7-6 lead and never looked back winning the game by a score of 35-14.

Grant Loy led B.C. through the air with 97 yards. Loy completed 9 of 18 attempts for a touchdown and an interception.

Cody Roberts led the Bucks on the ground rushing for 56 yards on 14 attempts.

Tyler Trapp led B.C.’s receiving corps with 4 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.

B.C. will play at Ridgedale in week 5 action.

In other action around the county Colonel Crawford thumped Seneca East 41-20, Crestline came up short against Ridgedale losing 22-20, and Galion defeated Buckeye Valley 32-0.
