The Bucyrus Redmen football team will host the ninth annual Bucyrus Redmen Powerlifting Meet in the Bucyrus High School Gymnasium March 8. Weigh-ins for male and female competitors in grades seven through twelve will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with the competition beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Student-athletes will compete in bench press, deadlift and squat competitions. Lifters will be divided into one of four categories: heavy weight, middleweight, light weight and middle school. Schools confirmed to compete in the competition include: Brookside, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Dalton, Galion, Gibsonburg, Madison, Northmor and Shelby. Many other teams will arrive and participate the day of competition.
“This has become one of the largest powerlifting meets in Ohio,” Bucyrus coach Aaron Eckert said. ”This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes, as well as student-athletes from the area, to show how hard they have been working in the weight room.”
Powerlifting meets provide athletes with an exciting, yet competitive opportunity to stay fit and active in the offseason. To learn more, contact Eckert at 419-571-0980.
