Jack Irving Franklin Davis died on January 10, 2022 at the age of 88. He was born to Wilbur and Cleo Davis on April 30,1933 in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky and grew up in Bucyrus, Ohio where he met the love of his life, Sally Starner. They married soon after high school and Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served as an instructor for driving and operating Army tanks at a base in Kentucky.
After serving in the Army, Jack and Sally moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Jack attended IIT and got his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and started working at Navistar in management until he retired in 1987.
Following his retirement, Jack and Sally moved to Cape Coral, Florida, and later to Ocala, Florida. Jack founded the Ocala Flying Model Club and enjoyed making and flying model airplanes with his many friends. He was always proud to show off his hangar full of planes in the garage and always had a plane on the work bench along with a story of two. After 49 years of a happy marriage, Sally passed away unexpectedly and broke his heart. Later Jack found companionship with and married Sandy Smith. They remained in Ocala.
Adored by his family, Jack is survived by his wife Sandy; a son, Jeff Allen (Heather) Davis in San Diego, CA; a daughter, Julie Ann (Joe) Knezovich in Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Lily Starner Davis, Camille Starner Davis, Kyle (Liz) Knezovich, Brandon Knezovich; a great granddaughter, Sophie Grace Knezovich; a sister, Elma Diller, Bucyrus; nephew, Mike (Christine) Diller, nephew and niece, Simon and Tabitha Diller, St. Louis, MO., niece, Jenny (Kelsey) Koge, Bucyrus, niece, Karlee Koge, Delphos, Ohio; and niece, Kendra Koge, Bucyrus. Jack was loved dearly by his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date at the Nevada Cemetery in Nevada, Ohio (TBA). Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Home Office, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, FI. 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
