Dan Leibengood, 72, of Bucyrus, died Friday, January 8, 2021, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. His death was unexpected however, he had battled Parkinson’s for the past few years.
He was born February 16, 1948, in Tiffin to the late Francis J. and Theresa V. (Schalk) Leibengood. Dan was a 1966 graduate of Calvert High School and shortly thereafter enlisted with the US Army, serving as an Operator Room Technician, and was stationed in Fort Hood Texas until his honorable discharge.
Dan wasn’t afraid of a hard day’s work and loved his 44 years spent working at AEP, retiring as a substation transmission supervisor. On November 8, 1996, he married Karen J. (Kime), and with her, came an extended family that offered many good laughs over the years. Being quick-witted, Dan could always offer up a one-liner when needed. He will be remembered as an honest man who was always willing to share a cold Miller Lite with friends and family.
In addition to Karen, his wife of 24 years, Dan is survived by a son, Eric (Theresa) Leibengood; daughters, Kimberly Fitch, Lindsay (Matt) Salisbury, Courtney (Brad) Frost, and Kristin (Zach) Hale; 11 grandchildren; siblings, Alan (Liz) Leibengood, Mary Leibengood, Sr. Judy Leibengood, OSF; mother-in-law, Margaret Kime; brothers and sister-in-law, Stephen Kime, John (Lynn) Kime, William (Terri) Kime, Gretchen (Mark) Heminger and Robert (Ashley) Kime as well as many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Richard Kime.
Dan’s family will celebrate his life privately and he will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. Donations can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County to honor his beloved dog, Buddy, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio.
