Chester Lee Butler Sr. of Bucyrus, passed away at his home April 2, 2022 with family by his side following a brief illness. Chester was born November 5, 1927 in Portsmouth Oh to the late William David and Daisy (Stevens) Butler. Chester had married Maggie Richond who preceded him in death.
Chester is survived by son Chester (Vanessa Damron) Butler and his 5 children Sherri Bayless, Lori (Allen) Marino, Harold Butler, Christina (Kenny Rhinhard) Butler, Kathy (Mark Kegley) Butler.
Preceded in death by son, Harold (Kathy) Scott and their 4 surviving children, Barbara “Barbi” (John Lungsford) Scott, Chuck Scott, Bruce Scott, and Shaye Scott of Bucyrus.
Daughter, Betty (Tom Orewiler) Butler and her daughter Leslie Hill of Bucyrus.
Daughter, Barbara (Duane Dible) Pritchard and her 2 sons Trenton Davis (Lisa Alsept) and Wesley (Billie Sue Abott) Davis.
Chester is survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mike and Becka Sheck, Brooke Bayless, Malichi Bayless, Steven and Brett Hector, Zach and Cody Houck, Blade Rhinehart, Tiffany Butler, Brittany Parcel, Brandi Butler, Timmy Butler, Macie and Kylie Bayless, Madison Kildow, Jade Decker, Mathew Rowalt, Megan (Rumor) Philips, Lee and Kendra Rumor, Audrey Neubacher, Weston and Wyatt Davis; sisters, Janet Reed of Kingman Arizona and Ada Griffit of Bourtonville Kentucky, Nancy (Charles) Rickett of Waverly Ohio and Celia Armstrong of Indian Creek Kentucky; brother, Walter (Julie Blankenship) Butler of Camp Dix Kentucky; sister-in-laws, Bessie Butler of Bucyrus and Carrie (Armstrong) Hobbs of Vanceburg Kentucky.
Chester is preceded in death by son, Harold (Kathy) Scott; granddaughter, Jessica Scott; grandson, Chase Neubacher and Douglas Hill; brothers, Glenwood Butler, Elwood Butler, Mosby Butler, and James Butler; sisters, infant Katheryn Butler, Pauline Liles, Louise Butler.
Chester was a quiet man, once he got to talking though he gave so much knowledge of the past with many good stories. He was very humble, honest, and hard working. Chester had his faith in “God”. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He moved to Bucyrus Ohio in the 1950’s for a good job at Monroe (Crawford) Steel. He worked 22 years until they closed. He then went on to work at Ohio Crane Locomotive for another 20 years and retired at 72 years old. He always enjoyed yard work, making sure the outside was kept up well, and loved visits from family. He will be deeply missed.
Visiting hours are at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home from 10AM-1PM Friday, April 8. There will be a funeral service following visitation at 1PM with pastor Ted Thomas Officiating.
