BUCYRUS — After an extensive statewide search for a head boys’ basketball coach, Wynford Board of Education member Rhonda Rowland announced the appointment of Steve Mohr to the position.
He brings to the district a long career in education with more than 37 years of experience, 26 years of head coaching experience and 25 years in administration. Mohr, who retired in December of 2015, felt a draw to come back to coaching basketball.
“I want to take Wynford basketball back to where it was five years ago,” Mohr said.
When asked what he felt needed to be accomplished to get the program headed in that direction, Mohr was clear.
“Kids need to understand the work involved in being part of a team,” Mohr said. “Kids have to accept and understand their roles and the level of commitment it takes to be successful.”
It was established in the meeting that Mohr will expect nothing less from his players than he expects from himself.

Also during the meeting, Wynford Local Schools Superintendent Fred Fox addressed the board with his comments, including the ongoing discussions about how the new building will be designed to meet the needs of the students, teachers and staff.
In a meeting earlier this week, teachers and students discussed the design of the new building. The architects also attended and made notes of the suggestions given to implement them in the building design. Fox said similar meetings open to the public will take place the first and third Wednesdays of the month until the project is complete.
“I was once told that you don’t stop five yards from a touchdown, you see it through,” Fox said. “That’s how we are handling this project. The students, staff and the public deserve this.”
Fox also spoke about potential revenue from upcoming wind turbine projects within the district. There are locations projected for 50 wind turbines to be placed throughout the district. Revenue to the school from the placement of those turbines could amount to $250,000 for the district.
In other business, the board approved the following supplemental contracts:
