BUCYRUS—Recently in the Mayor’s “State of the City” address he proposed revoking the income tax credit for people paying income tax in another municipality. The backlash from citizens was ghastly to say the least. But where was the outrage when two short years ago the Administration removed the decades old water rate surcharge for out-of-town customers? Essentially equalizing water rates between income tax paying Bucyrus citizens and the people receiving city services and paying no Bucyrus City income tax. Where was the outrage when business after business built new facilities on the edge of town avoiding Bucyrus City income tax yet receiving all the amenities of tax paying businesses within the city limits? Administration after administration have sold out the citizens of Bucyrus to the point that nearly 100 residencies and over 20 businesses reside outside of the city limits, only paying city income tax if they work in Bucyrus, yet still receive city services. City Council after City Council has let this go on. In my ten plus years on Council the only time I have heard of it is when I mention it, and then it dies. It’s way pastime to address this situation, especially considering the mayor’s prediction of an impending revenue shortfall. There is currently legislation ready to be passed giving away city services without any form of reciprocity. Contact Mayor Reser and City Council and tell them to quit giving away our city services. After all who is paying for that state-of-the-art water filtration plant and that billion-gallon water reservoir? You and me the taxpayers. There are too many ways to increase revenue and cut costs before raising taxes on taxpaying citizens of Bucyrus and this is only one way. As always, I’m open to questions and comments from people of the community.
