Women from Waycraft Industries, which is operated by the Crawford County board of developmental disabilities, recently were able to take part in Diva Day.
Diva Day is a chance for the women to receive a makeover from various independent beauty consultants.
Activities included getting face makeup applied, fingernails worked on, new hairstyles and others.
Many of the consultants said they enjoyed providing a service that many of the women do not typically partake in.
Waycraft Plant Manager Mark Beran said it is also a great way to get the women in the community and socializing.
“Many of these women live with family or in group homes, so it’s great for them to participate in something like this with other women,” Beran said. “It’s even better that it’s something they can take home and apply themselves.”
Even more than the beauty skills, Beran said the outing helps the women with things such as communication and people interaction skills.
Beran said he considered the first Diva Day a success and hopes to continue it as a form of day-hab for the workshop employees. Day-hab is the ability to get the workshop employees out into the community to develop certain skills.
Beran said he hopes Diva Day continues and also said he hopes more opportunities are provided including men-only events and co-ed events as well.
He said he hopes members of the public will take the time to get to know the Waycraft employees and try to better understand the abilities they possess and positives they bring to the community.
