Remember the report card you tried to sell to your parents as not being as bad as it looked? That’s kind of like the local jobs report for June.

According to figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services the unemployment rate for Crawford County increased by a full half-percent from May to June and is now at 8.7 percent.

A couple of factors contributed to the higher number.

First the county does have 100 more people on unemployment in June than it did in May. However, there are also 200 more people in the workforce here than were being counted last month and 100 more people working.

In June of 2012 the unemployment rate in Crawford County was 8.8 percent.

The overall jobless picture in Ohio is similar as the state’s unemployment rate jumped 0.6 of a percent in June to 7.5 percent. The jobless rates in all of the counties bordering Crawford also increased with Wyandot taking the biggest hit at a full percent increase to 7.4
