The old adage of do the crime, do the time certainly applied to Tuesday’s proceedings in Crawford County Common Pleas Court. Three men had hearings regarding violating the terms of their community control and all three were sentenced to time behind bars – two of them in prison.
Michael Bible was the lone defendant to remain on community control after he admitted to a petty theft offense in Ashland County and using prescription drugs illegally. Bible who is 27 and currently residing in Hayesville, was originally convicted on a charge of fourth-degree felony theft. Bible will remain on community control but must spend 90 days in the Crawford County jail.
Neither Adam Shepherd nor Alan Dyer were as fortunate. Judge Russell Wiseman revoked community control for both men who were subsequently sentenced to prison.
Shepherd, age 24 of Bucyrus, was sentenced to six months in prison after testing positive for several illegal substances in addition to not reporting to his probation officer and not providing a current address. Shepherd was originally convicted on a charge of possession of drugs.
Dyer also tested positive for several illegal substances and was caught with another felon. Dyer read from a prepared statement in which he said he wanted to become the father he should be for his daughter and wanted to address his drug addiction problem with treatment.
His probation officer, Ken Dyer, noted for the record that there were other exigent circumstances when Dyer was taken into custody which indicated he remained a threat to the community. Ken Dyer also said they Alan Dyer had never approached him or his previous probation officer with a request for assistance in dealing with his addiction issues.
As the judge was revoking his parole, Dyer appeared to interrupt to again make his case to stay out of prison. Wiseman told Dyer, “This is not community control (any more). You’re going back to prison because you screwed up.”
Dyer, 24, was sentenced to the balance of his prison sentence for robbery which will amount to about three years.
