BUCYRUS — Wesley Kinkead, 40, of Crestline made an initial appearance in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday, to face charges on two counts of rape, both first-degree felonies, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony.
According to the indictment, Kinkead raped a 5-year-old child. If he is convicted, each of those counts could carry a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The victim of the alleged gross sexual imposition is 11 years old. A conviction on gross sexual imposition carries a potential sentence of 18 months in prison.
Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall told the court that the mother of the victims has been charged with child endangerment. The mother took the victim to the hospital three days after the alleged rape.
Judge Sean Leuthold set bond for Kinkead at $2,000.000. Attorney Jerry Thompson was appointed to represent Kinkead.
John Spears, 40, of Bucyrus will spend the next six months in county jail and then transfer into the Volunteers of America Rehabilitation Program in Mansfield. Spears pleaded guilty to violating the terms and condition of his community control by admitting to assaulting two individuals and resisting arrest in May.
Spears was granted judicial release in February after serving 10 years in prison.
“I’m the guy who let you out and I could ship your ass right back to prison,” Leuthold said. “For the love of God, you have 10 years of prison! This is your last chance.”
