Anyone in the vicinity of the Crawford County fairgrounds Saturday evening most likely listened to the music of revving engines and pounding rain. The annual county truck pull took got its start an hour late due to rain and was then delayed another hour-and-a-half when the downpour picked up again.

All were determined to finish what was started, however, and the event resumed and went well into the night.

The pull brought participants out from all around the area to compete in eight different categories, which were specified by the amount of weight pulled, vehicle used, and, in the case of the Powderpuff Round, the gender of the driver.

In the 6,500-pound street legal gas division, Marvin Beagle pulled the weight 274.91 feet, earning him third place. For Beagle, pulling is a family affair.

“Well we just came out for a truck pull. My brother pulls trucks and I got into it because of him,” Beagle said. “It feels pretty good to place, it’s the first time I’ve really placed in a class so it’s a pretty good night.”

Standing next to his Ford, one can see the word “Beaglebuilt” inscribed on the side.
