When Galion City Auditor Brian Treisch told the media last Thursday he believed he would be able to secure a performance bond in the near future he was right on the money.

Treisch forwarded an email the following day from Nancy Them of RFME Insurance indicating he had been approved for such a bond in the amount of $50,000 for a $400 premium plus another $150 for an agency processing fee. The email went on to say the agency was “waiting on the surety to provide an acceptable form,” and that they hoped to have the bond prepared and issued by today.

Treisch is required by state law to have a bond and had earlier been turned down by the city’s insurance agent, Midland Insurance.

Treisch was escorted out of his office on Aug. 2 by City Law Director Roberta Wade and a Galion police officer because he did not have that bond. Treisch has since maintained that he was covered by the city’s general bond for all employees and officials, and further alleged that Wade acted outside the scope of her duties as law director in having him removed from the office.
