Tom Fellows will live on in North Robinson’s memory after the softball field at the William and Hannah Crawford School was named in his honor Monday evening. The field was named after Fellows due to his history with North Robinson softball.

In 1985 when there was no softball in North Robinson, Fellows, along with his wife Maxine, Jeanette Parker, and Bonnie Parker, put together the a youth girls softball league. The league started with three teams and by the time Fellows turned over the league it had 15.

Colonel Crawford Superintendent Todd Martin explained before the dedication.

“Shortly after he passed the board wanted to do something to honor him. This year we had volunteers complete the project, and (it) will be in use this weekend for tournaments.” Martin added, “It was a needed field.”

Fellows’ wife Maxine was appreciative of the field dedication.

“I am very honored and I’m sure he would be too. We really appreciate it,” Maxine Fellows said. He met a lot of really wonderful people through his coaching.”

Maxine beamed with joy recounting “the first group from the 1985 season to make it to Colonel Crawford won the NCC league championship and followed up that season by finishing state runner-up in 1993.”

After relinquishing management of the league, Fellows continued to coach softball until his passing in 2010.
