NEWS RELEASE:
MANSFIELD — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash on Trimble Road and Ohio 39 in Madison Township.
The crash occurred Wednesday, Sept. 26 at approximately 1:35 p.m.
A blue 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by 23-year-old Nathaniel C. Doup of Mansfield and a red 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 69-year-old Jennith G. Hargis of Nevada were both traveling northbound on Trimble Road at the intersection of Ohio 39.
Both were in the left turn lane to travel northwest on Ohio 39 while a yellow 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 41-year-old Earl A. Daniel of Mansfield was traveling southbound on Trimble Road.
Doup turned left and his vehicle was struck by Daniel’s vehicle, which then rotated and struck Hargis’ Blazer, forcing it to overturn. Both Doup’s and Daniel’s vehicles rotated and came to rest in the roadways.
Daniel was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Hargis also was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Doup suffered no injuries as a result of the crash.
The crash still is under investigation and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor. The use of seatbelts also is under investigation.
