The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s much publicized checkpoint got two drivers who had been drinking off the road and perhaps motivated an untold number into finding a safe ride home.
The State Patrol in conjunction with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office held an OVI checkpoint Friday on County Road 330 near U.S. 30 on the east side of Bucyrus. The site of that checkpoint was publicized Friday morning through local media.
Officers made contact with 626 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint. Two vehicles were diverted for further investigation. One of those was arrested for OVI and was also charged with having an open container in the vehicle.
A second arrest for OVI was made by a trooper working in the area of the checkpoint.
