NORWALK, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle injury crash that occurred late on November 6, 2024. The incident took place at 10:27 PM on State Route 4 near milepost 6 in Lyme Township, Huron County.
According to authorities, Victor Ortiz, 35, from Huron, Ohio, was traveling northbound on SR 4 in a 2020 Peterbilt car hauler when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. As a result, he veered off the right side of the roadway, collided with a utility pole, and subsequently overturned in a nearby field.
Ortiz was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained only minor injuries. He was treated and released at the scene by personnel from North Central EMS. Wilcox Towing responded to the scene to tow the truck and trailer.
Following the incident, Ortiz was cited for failure to control his vehicle. Authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not contributing factors in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance at the scene from Wilcox Towing, Ohio Edison, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), North Central EMS, and the Bellevue Fire Department.
State Route 4 remains closed as crews work to repair the damaged utility pole. ODOT has established a detour for motorists affected by the closure. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
