If there wasn’t a full moon out Thursday and Friday there should have been from the look of the Bucyrus police log. Two calls just a bit out of the ordinary resulted in two arrests and a misdemeanor citation.
Taking a baby stroller on a walk through a cemetery may have been a unique getaway, but it certainly wasn’t successful.
Bucyrus police arrested 37-year-old Matthew Witten Thursday afternoon. Witten was pushing a baby stroller loaded with miscellaneous items through Oakwood Cemetery. Witten was charged with breaking and entering into a garage on Virginia Avenue.
A resident had observed Witten on private property in that area. Witten is being held at the Crawford County jail.
A pair of men involved in argument over who was going to drive a stolen vehicle both lost early Friday morning when Bucyrus police showed up on the scene.
Police answered the call just after 2 o’clock Friday morning near the intersection of West Mansfield and South Spring Street. Larry Wise of Bucyrus complained that Howard Hall was trying to force him out of the car and take his money. For his part, Hall said he had borrowed the car from someone in Columbus and the car was overdue.
Police cited Wise for misdemeanor vehicle trespass. Hall wasn’t as fortunate and was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property after it was determined the vehicle had been stolen from Columbus. Hall is being held pending a court appearance.
Neither Hall nor Wise got to drive the car. It was towed from the scene.
