A noted expert on the secretive world of the Amish will offer a rare glimpse behind that curtain later this month.
BookMarkers book club will meet on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:00pm for a special event. In conjunction with book club discussion, guest speaker Brenda Nixon will give a presentation. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Nixon, author/contributor of over thirty-five books and creator of the award-winning blog, Beyond Buggies and Bonnets, will speak about the Amish, specifically the reclusive Swartzentruber Order. Known as the “Mom to the Ex-Amish,” Nixon will describe those she has befriended and helped during their path to live in the “forbidden” English world.
This event is open not only to book club members, but to anyone who wishes to attend.
BookMarkers will be discussing Ira Wagler’s book Growing Up Amish. Copies are still available at the main circulation desk for anyone who would like to read and discuss; new members are always welcome!
