A man was found dead of apparent suicide after local law enforcement officials attempted to complete an arrest the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent said the man’s identity is being withheld while family members are contacted.

Kent said his office was contacted by Crawford County Probation with a possible location near the intersection of Swabb and Kessler roads for the man who had a warrant issued for his arrest. It is unknown what the charges on the warrant were for.

Kent said when officers arrived they reported hearing two gunshots. Officers then set a perimeter around the nearby woods and cornfield while an airplane unit and drone were called to search the area.

The man was located in the field and officers found him dead on arrival, according to Kent.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, New Washington Police Department, Bucyrus Police Department, Galion Police Department and members of the county special response team assisted at the scene.

More information will be reported as it becomes available.
