NEWS RELEASE:

BUCYRUS — Due to a recent schedule conflict, a change was made to the speaker schedule for the Bucyrus Community Men’s Breakfast.

Former Ohio State University quarterback Craig Krenzel is unable to attend the breakfast, and Hord Family Farms President Pat Hord stepped in to give a presentation.

Hord is the fourth generation involved in the Crawford County family farm and has actively been helping with the management of the farm for more than 29 years.

The company raises around 7,500 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and hay as well as care for 26,000 sows and pigs from birth to market. They also have more than 100 contract growers in Ohio and Pennsylvania. They feed 1,500 beef cattle per year.

In addition, the Hord family operates two grain elevators, with a combined storage of 2.5 million bushels. They purchase raw feed ingredients such as grains, corn silage, dried distiller grains, bakery byproducts and vitamins and minerals and processes them into around 250,000 tons of feed per year for their animals.

The Hord Family Team consists of talented individuals striving to raise animals with care and utilizes modern and advanced farming practices to be efficient and sustainable.

Being community focused, Patrick serves on the Crawford County Economic Development Board and has been active in the Crawford 2020 initiative to improve the quality of life in the county.  Patrick is a member of the Community Foundation for Crawford County Investment Committee.

Janel and Pat also have started a non-profit called Crawford Works which serves to coach underemployed county residents in life skills that will help them sustain long term employment.

Personally, he is an active member of Heartland Church where he is currently serving on the Elder Governing Board.  Patrick and Janel have been married for almost 29 years and are parents of Phillip (25) and his wife, Becca, Colleen (23), Mallory (17), and Melissa (15).

The breakfast is Wednesday at 7 a.m. in the Bucyrus Community Hospital Cafeteria. Men and women, alike, are encouraged to attend.
