MARION—Judge Warren T. Edwards, Administrative Judge of the Marion Common Pleas Court General Division, located within the Historic Marion County Courthouse at 100 North Main Street in downtown Marion is pleased to announce that Marion’s famed statue of Lady Justice is to be returned to the top of the Marion County Courthouse, weather permitting, on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 8:00 am.

Marion’s Lady Justice is best known for her mysterious disappearance from the dome atop the Marion County Courthouse in June of 1952. She was missing for 28 years until Marion radio broadcasting legend Charlie Evers located the statue and arranged for her restoration, and restored her to her rightful place atop the 1884 structure on November 15, 1980.

Earlier this year, she was removed for repairs after Judge Edwards noticed that she had a large hole in the side of her face. Judge Edwards noted that the statue is being returned months ahead of schedule.

He wished to express his thanks to the Marion County Commissioners Andy Appelfeller, Kerr Murray, and Ken Stiverson for their investment in the restoration of the courthouse and Lady Justice, as well as Dave and Bob Lepo, who did the repairs of Lady Justice, Nathan Lee and his team at Lee Restoration Ltd who took her down and will be putting her back up and Mark Lecky of Mark Lecky Architects, LLC for coordinating it all.
