It was a busy morning in Crawford County Common Pleas Court as Judge Sean Leuthold sorted through approximately 17 indictments, but for a Mansfield man, the judge made his Monday just a little more dismal.
Edwin Roof, 46, of Mansfield was arraigned via video from the Crawford County Justice Center. Roof was charged with Possession of Heroin. Charges indicate he had a large amount of heroin in his possession, exceeding 5 grams, a third-degree felony.
“How long have you been in jail Mr. Roof” Leuthold asked.
“Two weeks,” Roof responded.
With a shocked look on his face, Leuthold said, “No disrespect Mr. Roof but you’ve been clean for two weeks and you look like hell.”
Due to the amount of heroin in his possession, Roof’s bond was set at $150,00.00. Attorney Andy Motter was assigned to represent roof.
Defendant India Samuel, 24 of Mansfield got some sound driving advice from Judge Sean Leuthold when she appeared in his court room to answer to charges of theft. Before he continued her personal recognizance bond Judge Leuthold had a question for her. “Where did you park this morning?” After trying to explain herself the Judge interrupted her and said, “I know where you parked because you parked in my space. Not a good idea Ms. Samuel. The sign says reserved.” Noting with a smile that he wouldn’t hold that against her, he entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
In a more serious tone, Bryce Miller of Crestline faced the judge on charges of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Miller faces up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
According to Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler, it is believed the incident is a case of a drug deal gone sour.
A female victim is reported to have had her hand inside Miller’s car when he proceeded to drive away dragging the woman with him. The action resulted in severe injuries and hospitalization for the victim. Attorney Adam Stone represented Miller who was housed at the Crawford County Justice Center. Bail was set at $200,000.
