Searching for volunteers for various projects HomeCare Matters held an open house at its 1220 North Market Street location in Galion Tuesday.
With two open house times running from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. HomeCare Matters was looking for volunteers to sign up for one of many programs including Direct Patient Respite Care event volunteers, art volunteers, and various positions within the group’s funnel cake stand.
Family Support Coordinator Brandon Quail explained why HomeCare Matters was holding the open house.
“This is a chance for anyone that would like to volunteer with us, or see what volunteering with us looks like for them to come out and check us out,” Quail said.
Tammi Crawford explained why she was looking to get involved.
“My mom passed in October and she always came out and helped. I wanted to fill up my time and give back to the community.”
Retired Colonel Crawford employee Dorothy Clutter shared why she was interested in the opportunities at HomeCare Matters.
“I did some volunteer work, but want to pick up some more. I like to feel good at the end of the night, that I did something to help my community. Life is too precious to waste.”
HomeCare Matters Hospice Case Manager Kevin Bryden explained how he utilizes volunteers.
“We have volunteers that sit with patients, read to them, speak with them. We have volunteers that are gracious enough to drive patients to doctors’ appointments. Just about anything filing in the office, helping color in cards for people in nursing homes,” Brydemn said. “There are a million and one things it is almost too many to list, obviously the funnel cake stand.”
Cookies were provided to those attending the open house by the baked goods volunteers of HomeCare Matters.
