GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The southbound lane of S. Market Street, from Walnut Street to just south of the former Peace Lutheran Church, will be closed as a precautionary measure following the structural failure of a portion of the church’s bell tower.
The Galion Port Authority, which owns the property, has collaborated with the Richland County Building Department in response to the situation.
The Richland County Building Department has declared the structure unsafe, identifying the failure of the tower as a serious hazard.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists, local authorities have mandated the closure of the street, as well as nearby parking spaces and sidewalks, during the demolition process.
The demolition is anticipated to take up to two months to complete.
For inquiries regarding the project, residents can contact Mark Rantala, Director of the Galion Port Authority, at director@galionport.org
Crawford County Now will provide updates as they become available.
