NEWS RELEASE:

GALION – The Galion City School District will be taking time out of the school day to honor America’s heroes Thursday, Nov. 9. The Primary and Intermediate Schools, along with the Middle School, will be conducting separate activities to show respect for veterans.

The Primary and Intermediate Schools will be honoring veterans by dressing in red, white and blue Nov. 9. Students from both schools will gather around the flag pole at the Intermediate School to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing The Star-Spangled Banner.

The Primary School will also place red, white and blue stars along the wall outside the building’s office. These stars will represent family and friends of Primary students who have served our country.

Students at Galion Middle School will have the opportunity to start their day by having breakfast with an active member of the Armed Forces or a veteran. The students who bring a guest to breakfast will then have the opportunity to introduce them during a special assembly.

Following the assembly, all Middle School students will write Thank You letters to active duty service members and veterans. The letters will be delivered to the Galion American Legion and VFW posts, where the letters to veterans will be read and those for active duty service members will be forwarded to the appropriate locations.

“I’m incredibly proud of this district’s students and staff for honoring our veterans,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “We live in a great country and enjoy many wonderful freedoms because of the sacrifices our veterans, and their families, have made fighting for the United States. Thank you to all veterans and their families.”
