Crestline has been without a grocery store for three years and it has been hard to buy fresh food in our area. Beginning in May, The Crestline Farmer’s Market may help alleviate some of the headache of having to drive out of town to be able to purchase reasonably priced produce.

The First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Thoman St., Crestline, will be sponsoring a weekly Farmer’s Market beginning May 5 and running every Tuesday from 3-6 p.m., rain or shine, in the church lot, until the end of October. In order to participate, vendors must make, bake, craft, or grow what they plan to sell. A $5 fee will be collected each week, and will go to the church as a charitable donation. The money will be used for advertising expenses.

General liability Farm Market insurance is required and a Certificate of Liability Insurance needs to be brought to the first market in order to participate.

Home produced food items will follow the Cottage Food Rules for labeling. This requires listing the name of the food produced, a list of ingredients, name and address of producer, and have the following statement: “This Product is Home Produced” in bold print.

Vendors will need to supply their own tables, chairs, canopies, weights for canopy, and money for change. Non-profits are encouraged to participate as well. Spread the word about the market to family and friends. We would love to have someone who sews aprons, makes dish cloths, noodles, jams, jellies, soaps and lotions, candles, baked goods, fresh produce, meat, etc.

If interested in participating in Crestline’s first Farm Market or if you have any questions, please call or text 419-569-4171 or email lilfarmersmarket@yahoo.com.
