RICHLAND COUNTY—The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash. The crash occurred on June 16, 2021, around 4:19 PM on Thrush Road south of Beam Road.
Brian K. Claypool, age 18, of Crestline, Ohio was driving a blue 2001 Yamaha ATV eastbound and entered the roadway from a yard. Donald G. Collins III, age 42, of Crestline, Ohio was driving a white 2017 Chevrolet Express van south on Thrush Road. Mr. Claypool’s ATV was struck by Mr. Collins III as the ATV entered the roadway. Mr. Claypool was ejected from the ATV. Mr. Claypool was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield by Springfield Township EMS where he was treated for serious injuries. Mr. Collins III was treated at the scene by Springfield Township EMS for minor injuries.
Springfield Township Fire and Terry’s Towing was on scene and assisted. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash, but it remains under investigation.
