CRESTLINE—A Crestline man who was arrested after a tip was provided to law enforcement regarding a package that he was to receive through Fed Ex was sentenced on drug and weapons charges on Thursday in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.
David A. Fuson, 56, was arraigned on Jan. 7 on eight charges related to the incident. He has been held at the Crawford County Justice Center on a $150,000 bond.
In a plea agreement with prosecutors, six of the eight charges were dismissed after he pled guilty to one count of possession of drugs and one count of having weapons under disability, both third-degree felonies. He was sentenced to three years on the possession of drugs charge and 18 months on the weapons charge for a total of 54 months in prison. He will get credit for 71 days he has already served in the county jail.
Judge Sean Leuthold also ordered Fuson to pay a $5,000 drug fine and to forfeit several firearms, a cell phone and drug-related property to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. A Beretta 22 short gun is to be returned to its original owner.
Fuson has been represented by Bucyrus attorney Brad Starkey after his arrest in December of 2020 after a tip alerted law enforcement that a package containing 75 Oxycodone-Oxycontin pills and marijuana was to be delivered to Fuson’s address through Fed Ex.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, along with METRICH and the Crestline and Galion Police Departments, delivered the package, along with a narcotic search warrant, to Fuson’s residence. During the search of the residence, additional pills and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and firearms, were located.
