BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District has announced it will host its annual Pond Clinic on June 11, providing local landowners and residents with expert guidance on aquatic management and habitat development.
The outdoor event is scheduled to take place at the Carlisle Pond site, located at 4814 Stetzer Road in Bucyrus. Educational presentations will kick off alongside a light meal provided by the North Robinson Blue Ribbons 4-H Club starting at 5:15 p.m.
Organizers have designed this year’s clinic to address both new pond construction and long-term ecosystem maintenance. A primary focus of the evening will feature practical strategies for renovating older pond infrastructures, utilizing the Carlisle Pond location as a real-world example of a recently reconstructed site.
Eugene Braig, director of aquatic ecosystems at Ohio State University, will serve as a keynote presenter. Braig is slated to discuss comprehensive pond management techniques, balancing aquatic biological systems, and mitigating common water quality issues.
Landowners experiencing issues with invasive or unfamiliar vegetation are encouraged to bring aquatic plant samples to the event. The presenting experts will provide on-site identification and targeted management recommendations.
Technical specifications regarding initial design, site selection, and proper excavation will be presented by Megan Brown, a technician with the Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District.
In addition to structural and biological management, the clinic will address local environmental interactions. Nathan Cass, a wildlife officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, will detail common nuisance wildlife challenges and outline lawful, effective management practices for property owners.
The clinic will conclude with an interactive question-and-answer session with all featured speakers, with the evening wrapping up by 7:45 p.m.
The educational seminar will be held rain or shine. Attendees are requested to bring their own lawn chairs for seating.
While the event is free to the public, registration is required to accommodate seating and meal planning. Interested participants must RSVP by June 9 by contacting the Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District office at 419-562-8280, extension 3. Full event flyers and additional resources are available on the district’s website at crawfordswcd.org.
