CRESTLINE ― Crestline Village Council unanimously voted to hire acting police chief Jeff Shook as the permanent police chief Monday evening.

Shook, who was originally hired in September to fill the position while former police chief Joseph Butler was on administrative leave, will be resigning from his position as the New Washington police chief to focus solely on his new position in Crestline. Butler resigned two weeks ago.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I want to do a great job for the village of Crestline,” Shook said.

Since Shook resides in Lexington, council also approved legislation to allow the police chief to live outside the village limits.

In other council business, village solicitor Rob Ratliff explained that the empty council seat current mayor Joy Miley once filled will remain vacant, for now.

“The seat is still Joy’s seat unless she decides to run for mayor next fall,” Ratliff said.

Ratliff said if Miley runs for mayor, the seat then would be filled by a person appointed by council.

Village administrator John Rostash said the city’s new website with updated information should be up and running soon.

The next council meeting is Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the village administration building.
