BUCYRUS—The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is back in action this year but will be done differently than it was pre-pandemic.

According to Kelly Hufford, the Special Olympics Coordinator for Crawford and Morrow Counites, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 28, at Aumiller Park.

“This year has not been a normal year for anyone, Special Olympics included. We are now just getting back to some of our normal activities.  Our event this year will be different. We will not be running county to county passing the torch but instead, we are doing a community event at Aumiller Park where anyone can come and participate,” said Hufford.

She said local law enforcement agencies will run or walk around the park.

“We are encouraging the community to come meet and have some fun with us.  We will have Bocce Ball and Cornhole with a Cop as well as food and drinks for people attending while supplies last,” said Hufford.

She said it is a great way to help raise money for the Special Olympics of Ohio to support all that is done throughout the year.

“It helps pay for all the many free clinics and sports camps as well as the many activities they provide to us.  We will have Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mugs available for a donation as well as containers for free-will donations of any monetary amount,” said Hufford. “We are very thankful for the Crawford Community and all the support.”

She said anyone can create a team and Special Olympics will continue to collect money through the middle of July.
