The Colonel Crawford Board of Education voted to make two donations during its regular meeting Monday evening.
The first donation was for $2,500 to the Crawford County Partnership for Community Opportunity website. The original request from the partnership was for $5,000. The partnership requested the donation from all Crawford County schools as a way to pay for public advertising for the program.
Board President Tim Ley said he had a meeting with Superintendent Todd Martin who suggested donating half the asked amount initially until it is seen how the money is used.
Ley said the money was to be used for advertising and not for the program’s operations, but multiple board members desired to see the money being used before giving the second half.
Martin said he believed Bucyrus, Wynford and Galion already agreed to make donations to the partnership and Buckeye Central was waiting. He was unsure on the status of a donation from Crestline.
The second donation was for $2,000 to the Crawford County D.A.R.E. Program. Board Member Norm Huber said he attended the D.A.R.E. graduation last year and was very impressed with the program.
Martin said he believed Colonel Crawford receives a great bang for its buck with the county D.A.R.E. program and believed the investment was well worth it.
During the meeting, an open house was occurring for students and families. Colonel Crawford begins school Wednesday, Aug. 23.
