Children in grades K-6 from all public and parochial elementary schools in Crawford County can get free school supplies and play games for prizes at the fifth annual Back-To-School-Supply Carnival from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, August 1 at Bucyrus United Methodist Church’s Outreach Center, 216 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus.
The supplies include basic items from each school’s classroom lists. All children are welcome to the carnival, however they must be accompanied by an adult to receive their free supplies. No need to come early and stand in line, as in the past; everyone who arrives between 3 and 6 p.m. will get supplies.
Parents can also get free school clothing for their kids from God’s Open Clothing Closet, inside the Outreach Center.
People of all ages can enjoy the carnival, which features free games and prizes, food and drink, a puppet show, the Sulser Family Clowns, music by Sonix Sounds DJ Services and an Info Fair.
The Info Fair includes more than 17 organizations with information and goodies to share with the families. On display for the children to explore will be a LifeStar ambulance, a Bucyrus City fire engine, a Bucyrus City School bus, and cruisers from the Bucyrus Police Department and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
Carnival activities will be in the parking lot and on the lawn of the Outreach Center. In the event of rain, they will move inside. The Outreach Center is located at the point of Hopley, Walnut and Woodlawn, across from the Swifty gas station and next to the Bucyrus Elementary School.
Funds to buy the school supplies are donated by the Bucyrus UMC congregation. The supplies are purchased locally. The carnival is sponsored by the church Missions & Outreach Committee and staffed by volunteers from the church and community at large.
